Praying For You Card

I logged onto Facebook this past Monday and found out that a college friend's mother had passed away unexpectedly.

I created this card to let her know how sorry I am and how much her Mom meant to me.  She loved me and treated me like family when I really needed it and I'll miss her more than I can express.

The base of the card is Very Vanilla and the front was embossed using the Polka Dot embossing folder with my Big Shot.  The 2nd layer is Always Artichoke and the flowers are Pumpkin Pie.  I used the Itty Bitty Shape Punches to create the flowers and finished them by adding a small Basic Pearl in the center of each. 

I left the inside of the card very simple so that I have room to write her a special message.

Thoughts & Prayers Card

I never have a sympathy card when I really need one so I came up with this simple design.  It is quick to create but so elegant. 

I started with the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set and Very Vanilla card stock.  I added Old Olive for the stem, leaves and sentiment and So Saffron for the flowers.  I placed a small Rhinestone in the center of each flower to give it some sparkle and then popped the whole image up with dimensionals.

This sentiment on the inside of the card was also stamped in Old Olive and layered like the front.

A card that you hate to need

Sympathy cards are something that I hate to make but do need to make so I used today's Mojo Monday sketch as my starting point to make one for a friend who just lost her mother.  I used the stamp set Thoughts & Prayers and got my colors from the Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper.

Here's what I came up with:

The base of the card is Pear Pizzazz (love, love, love it) and was cut at 4-1/4" x 11" and then scored at 5-1/2" so that I could wrap the ribbon around the whole front without having to cut a slit for it.

I took two pieces of the patterned paper and cut them into random width strips and then layered them onto a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock that had been punched with the Scalloped Edge Border Punch.  The strips of paper range from 1/8" - 1" wide.

I used my Pear Pizzazz, Baja Breeze and Daffodil Delight markers to color the image and then stamped it onto Shimmery White card stock (I'm glad that you can see the shimmer in the photos).  Then it was layered onto Baja Breeze card stock and then onto Chocolate Chip card stock.  I used dimensionals to attach it to the front of the card after I added the ribbon.

To add the ribbon I used my Crop-a-Dial to punch a small hole in the center of the stem and then wrapped the 1/8" Marina Mist Taffeta Ribbon around the card front and then tucked the ends up through the hold before tying them into a simple knot.

This inside of the card was stamped just like the front and then glued with Tombow Mono Multi.

A Simple Sympathy Card

This is one of the cards that I created for my Uncle's family, he recently passed away after a four year battle with cancer.  The layout is an older sketch challenge, CPS#54, that was perfect to use with the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set.

Card Recipe (All SU!) : Stamps - Thoughts and Prayers;  Paper - Confetti White, Certainly Celery, Always Artichoke, Close to Cocoa, Shimmery White;  Ink - Certainly Celery, Always Artichoke, Always Artichoke Marker, Close to Cocoa Marker;  Accessories - White Taffeta Ribbon, Scallop Oval Punch, Dimensionals, SAMJ, Scallop Edge Punch, Paper Cutter

Since the main part of the sketch was the scallop frame, that's where I started.  I used a 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" piece of Certainly Celery and punched the first row and then lined up at the corner and punched the second side and then the two remaining sides.  The second, third and fourth sides are a little more challenging because you have to line up the punch differently.  Just make sure you keep an even edge and it will come out very close to square.

For the sentiment layers first I stamped the words with Always Artichoke onto Shimmery White and then punched them out using the Scallop Oval Punch. Then I punched out two Close to Cocoa ovals using the same punch and layered then onto the back of the saying keeping one towards the top and one towards the bottom.  The White Taffeta Ribbon hides where they meet. 

For the inside I created another scallop square and then layered Always Artichoke and Confetti White on it.  the tree image from Thoughts and Prayers was stamped with Certainly Celery.
